Dwarf Fortress Tutorial: Part 2

In the last stream of Dwarf Fortress, we learned how to navigate the menus, dig into the mountain some basic rooms for us, and start production on our farm and other necessities. We still have a lot to do. I wanted to do this with a couple of days in between each stream so as to not have Dorfan every single night during prime time, but also, New Years is coming, so it'll be a few days more. Part two of this three or four part series will be on Sunday, January 2nd 2011, 8:00 PM EST.

(alcohol explodes with fire)

Also, if you took part in it, I ask that you leave a comment or two about the first part of the tutorial. Ideas to consider (but not limit yourself to): Did you learn a lot? Was the pacing good? Were my language and directions accessible? What can I do different for the next time? You can say whatever you want, things you like or some criticism for future streams, so part two is even better.

If you missed part one, it is on the On-Demand. My save from the end of this part can also be downloaded here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?q3brqt7jcb770h0

Just place the folder in DF > Data > Saves, and when you load up, load up from the name of the folder.

"The Minecraft for people with class."

When one thinks of Dwarf Fortress...

...things can be pretty overwhelming.

That is why I am going to stream a Live Dwarf Fortress Tutorial. You can finally learn how to play this daunting game in an incredibly accessible way. I will be streaming purely for those who need instructions on how to fuck spaghetti play this game, beginning with navigating the interface and working up to overall strategies and things you need to know to be started on your way to a successful fort, and more importantly, on your way to fun.

Of course, as I am playing you are encouraged to ask questions through the chat. Here's the best part: Everything is already set up for you to play along. You will be using the same exact world that I will be streaming, so you do not need to worry about unforeseen consequences; you can even just follow along with what I do step-by-step if you'd like. Just download the following file pack:

http://www.mediafire.com/?3uzrpd24mfix4l5

A couple of guidelines:

1. A graphics pack is currently enabled. If you do not want to use a graphics pack, simply execute the DFInit.exe file, hit "load" to load my settings, and uncheck "use graphics" in the first tab. Some argue this gives the game more of an authentic feel and leaves more to the imagination.

2. To see the chat, my stream, and be able to see the game, I recommend setting up your screen to something like this:

...or if you're a rich motherfucker, just use one computer for the stream and one computer for the game.

That's all. I'll see you on Tuesday, December 28th at 8:00 PM EST.

Strike the earth!

It's a Kong Off!

Hello sauce friends, today's entry will discuss a few things I've been meaning to get to but haven't due to being sick. Let's start with the Kong Off. Today Tame and I began the competition and after our first full hour, Tame has a slight lead. For those that don't know, we're playing DKC at the same time, trying to see who can finish first. Both of us Game Overed once and had to start from the beginning, but fear not, we'll actually be saving from now on! Also, thanks to Exhorder for making the excellent Kong Off promo image!

Next up, you may notice that the Streamer List on the FAQ looks a little different. It was outdated and as such I decided to fix it up. Some of the streamers are no longer listed. For example, PurpleSawdust contacted me and told me to remove him as a streamer given the fact that he can't stream often, if at all. I removed a few others as well.

Basically, if I removed you as a streamer without telling you, it means you stopped streaming without telling me. At some point, you can get your streamer status back, but I want to make sure our list is accurate, so for now, I'd say relax and come back in a few weeks to reapply for your position.

It's also come to my attention that people advertise their streams during autopilot. Honestly, trying to find a solution to this is the most difficult part of being a stream owner. I relayed a personal story today about the early days of Vinesauce Vidya. When I first started up, the stream I was going to was more or less dead. The autopilot was deleted and there were barely any streams, yet 30 - 40 people stayed around and chatted, complaining about the lack of entertainment. I decided to link to my stream, which now had a full autopilot and myself streaming constantly. I was banned immediately for advertising my stream. As I gained my first few loyal viewers and streamers through persistence, I decided to try an underhanded move and advertise in other, larger streams. I was banned immediately.

My point is, it's heavily frowned upon to leech viewers from a stream, even if it's just autopilot that's playing. While I don't feel strongly enough to ban people about it, the fact of the matter is, if I wanted you to stream, I'd make you a streamer.

That leads me to another point. Say I'm planing on streaming GAME DICKS sometime in the future but haven't got to it yet. During some dead time a random dude from the chat boots up his stream, and links everyone to it. Say 30 people go to watch. Coincidentally, this guy is streaming GAME DICKS. Well, when I go to boot up GAME DICKS when I'm ready to play it, 30 of our viewers are bored because just a few weeks ago a member of the chat streamed GAME DICKS.

It's very tricky business.

While I'm on the topic of streamers, I know a lot of you want to stream for us. Every day I see at least 5 different people talking about how they'd like to stream a particular game, or movies at the movie page, or whatever.

I really hate disappointing people, but I can't do it. In my view, a stream packed with willing streamers can turn nasty. At the moment we have an almost perfect (notice I said almost) mix of streaming and autopilot. You see how disappointed streamers can get if they can barely get time to go live. Three or even two more streamers could make this even worse.

Also, I've heavily considered making a separate stream to let more people in on the action, but it doesn't work at all, and as the poor people over at Vinecraft are aware, I can't run more than one stream; I just don't have it in me.

I want to end with just a few things. You can see the little sidebar with the constant Twitter announcements. So far, they've been great and should give you reason to check the blog fairly often. Thanks Tame for keeping it updated.

We also now have a page for the SMBX campaign. Use it to collaborate with each other, post levels or even ask for help. I've been slacking a bit on the campaign, but I'm still serious about it. I'm very excited to see the finished product.

That's a lot of fucking typing I just did. Thank you all again for everything! Look forward to more contests and retardation in the near future.

10 Million Get

It seems like I'm writing about our viewer minutes about once a week these days. It's incredible how quickly we hit 10 Million Viewer Minutes, but as I always say, it's you guys that did it. You may have caught us in a thread about Mario Corruptions or maybe you saw a link to us for a Campfire show. You could have found us through the Livestream guide, a link from another site or even from Facebook (you'd be surprised how many people are here from Facebook.)

In the end, it doesn't really matter how you found us. People are always clicking links then moving on, wandering the endless internet landscape of filth and wonder like some kind of wastelander from the Fallout universe. What really matters most to us is that you stayed. You made this YOUR wasteland, YOUR filth. There are now people who call this place home. That... is incredible.

We're probably not the best stream out there. We don't have the best looking page nor the most advanced looking livestream player. We don't all have the highest quality capture cards and we don't always play the most interesting games to watch. Sometimes we suck at video games, but mostly we're just OK at them.

What we do have is honesty. Honesty and a desire to do the best we can. I can speak for myself (and probably all of us) when I say that I love streaming for you guys. I've always liked sharing the experience of a great game with a friend. That's why I started the stream, and that's why I still do it. Thanks again for sticking around, here's to another 10 million!

- SMBX Contest Winners -

Most of you guys already know who won, but here are the winners:

1st - RichardRickson
2nd - PhantomDust
3rd - Suaig

Congrats guys! We'll start organizing levels for the campaign soon. For now, keep working on your maps and I'll get you more details soon.

9 Million Viewer Minutes + Site Down Time

So guys, 9 Million Viewer Minute Get! This time, I think we should thank all the new viewers that have been watching. There's a lot of streams out there, so it can be tough to settle on one or two that you really like; so seriously, thanks for sticking with us guys!

As you guys are aware, we've had two separate occasions where our webhost went down. If this happens and you still want to watch the stream, here are some places you can go:

Our Livestream Page
Direct Link to our Chatango

Generally, the site should be up within a few hours if it goes down. Apparently our host was simply doing some site maintenance. Of course, you can always check the blog and see if anything serious is happened to the site.

To close off, we've decided to make our current Guest Streamers part of the stream team. Exhorder and StreamTrap are now Part-Time streamers! You guys loved their streams and so did the streamers; now they can be a part of our jabroni gym.

By the way, Jen has been up-keeping a list of games we've streamed since we started. Check it out and let us know if you think it's accurate.

Super Mario Brothers X Level Contest!

Contest time again! This time we're holding a contest for best Mario Brothers X level. Here are the rules:

- Download the FREE Super Mario Brothers X here: http://www.supermariobrothers.org/smbx/
- Use the level editor to make the best, most creative level you can. We're not going for extreme difficulty, make it challenging, but doable.
- The level can have any theme you choose, and can be fairly long; but try to make it look nice and try not to make it too long. The length of an average Mario Brothers 3 level is perfect.
- You can upload the level to http://www.mediafire.com/ and post your submission as a comment to this blog post. Be sure to include your chatango name when posting your level.
- All good, non-troll entries will be added to the official Vinesauce campaign! I'll create a world map to tie all the levels together.
- The levels will be judged by the streamers and placed in order of easiest to hardest.
- The winner will receive a $20 Steam game of their choice.
- Second and Third place will spotlighted in the Vinesauce campaign.
- Due date is Saturday, November 20th.
- ONE level per person!

Basically, make this level as you were designing levels for Mario 3. Use whatever graphics, NPC's you'd like, but keep the level classy. Throwing a vinesauce meme or two in a level as a joke is perfectly acceptable. Also, NOT EVERY LEVEL NEEDS A BOSS!!

If you want to give my Zebes map a try, download it here and extract the "Zebes" folder to your SMBX/worlds folder. From there you can play it, or even edit it if you'd like.

So there you go everyone, have fun and make some cool levels!

Put this on, and close your eyes.

Remember when it was so much simpler? Before the sex and the parties and the girls and the schoolwork and the jobs and the bills?

Remember when all Saturday was, was just sitting in front of your TV trying to beat Bowser?

Remember when getting every star was more important than getting the girl?

Remember when you didn't have to worry about anything? All you had to do was be a kid, and enjoy life.

Why can't we do that now?

Close your eyes.

Go back to that time.

What Stream is Best Stream?

As you guys know, I can't stream all day errey day. My work schedule more or less leaves me with only night-time streaming as an option. While I'm busy at work, I manage to lurk a bit here and there. I've noticed that our viewer count drastically decreases when certain "factors" are in effect. I'll try my best to explain what I mean.

CHAT: I'm not a believer in telling people what to talk about. It's extremely easy for me to ignore dumb comments, so I have faith that others can do the same. I don't like when people try to moderate what others say in the chat, be it a streamer or ESPECIALLY a viewer; if people can't say whatever the fuck they want, we may as well not even have a chat.

I personally get annoyed when the chat turns into facebook, because after-all, we are a video game stream, but even that can't really be helped. I like getting to know people as well as chat video games, but drama need not apply. People don't come to Vinesauce chat to see us arguing with each other, and that's not an opinion.

GUEST STREAMERS: I'm giving this guest streaming thing a try so people from other streams can check us out and we can fill some dead-time (which, let's not fool ourselves, there is dead-time.) Remember we're giving them a try, so feedback is important. If you guys don't even like the idea of guest streamers, you HAVE TO LET ME KNOW. I'm an easily approachable person and I'm open to how you guys feel; viewers and streamers alike.

VINESAUCE STREAMERS: If the guest streamer has been on for a while and you want to stream something, ask them nicely, they'll get off and then you stream! It's easy as that. We only stream on one page, so of course, we're not all gonna get a chance to stream on a daily basis at the exact time we want. Sacrifice and patience are as important as being a great streamer.

SKYPE CLUSTERFUCKS: I really, really don't like skype calls with lots of people in them. I avoid them when I'm streaming as much as possible. My exceptions are Mario Retardy and drinking games. A clusterfuck can ruin the immersion of a single player game and it's been proven to drop our viewer count. Also consider the viewers from livestream, they join to see a game they like and the audio isn't even remotely related. Clusterfucks have a time and a place.

So these are the things I really wanted to get off my chest. Is this all too much? Am I being fair? Let me know in the comments.

Updated Streamer List

To the best of my ability, I've put together a list of the part-time/full-time streamers. This is totally based on my own observation, so if I'm mistaken let me know by sending me a message on skype.

Full-Time Streamers
Vinesauce
Tame
MentalJen
m3ss (Ravi)
Fzuul (Fred)
Bombchu

Part-Time Streamers
ToxicToothpick
VicariousGaming (Darren)
SleepDeprivation
Spacebat (Adam)
RevScarecrow
KylieTheDorf
PurpleSawdust
TheBobito
Imakuni
KY

I'm probably wrong on a few of these; I don't really know what happens in the early mornings because I can't get up before the sun starts descending. Those that are on the very edge of being full-time, let me know what you'd like to do. Read the previous blog and tell me what works best for you. Also, I decided to make Bobito and Imakuni part-timers instead of guest streamers. They're great streamers, great viewers and great friends. If you see them in the chat, tell them congrats.

Next week we'll take our first "Guest Streamer." I am excite about this. Very much!

Also, expect lots of fun stuff for Halloween, including Campfire and a movie on Sunday night. There's now a link to the movie page at the top of the blog. Praise Bill Murray.

Streamer Organization

In an attempt to organize our large list of streamers, I've decided to create Full-Time and Part-Time positions. Now, before I get any further, I'm still aware that this isn't a job, nor am I paying anyone to stream, but, this'll hopefully be a way to categorize the less active streamers and reward the more active streamers. It goes like this:

Full-Time Streamer: Someone who streams as much as daily to as little as 3 or 4 times a week. These streamers put a lot of their time into the stream, so it's important to recognize them. As somewhat of an unspoken rule, full-timers retain priority over the other types of streamers because of how much they contribute to the stream.

Part-Time Streamer: Someone who streams a few times a week and less. These streamers are understandably busy in their personal life and/or just don't have the ability to stream very often. Sometimes I'll ask someone to be a Part-Time Streamer by request if we have too many streamers and very little dead time. A part-timer is most useful to fill the gaps during our off hours.

Guest Streamer: Someone who has streamer access, but not permanently. It's not a final decision, but my idea of a guest streamer would be someone who streams one entire game over the span of a few streams. Guest streamers might be appointed when there are some open hours of daily streaming available.

We've been retaining a fairly busy stream, but our "dead hours" definitely seem to lie in the afternoon and just before then. Something like 8am to 3pm EST. Nights (6pm - 3am - remember, New York time) are more or less reserved for the more active streamers, or full-timers. Inactive nights do happen sometimes, in which case, whoever's available to stream should take over. Of course, it's good to ask if anyone's going to stream first.

It's difficult to maintain the free-for-all environment of a stream, yet still have some semblance of order. Again, this is more or less a way to help things run a bit smoother. What do you guys think? Streamers and viewers alike, post your comments and tell me if this is a good idea.

Vinepedia - Part 2

Welcome to Vinepedia! This will be an occasional series that explains some of the "memes" of Vinesauce history. Lets continue with Part 2.

Jack Nicholson - A fantastic actor and frequent attendee of many sporting events. These sports are not limited to just real life. He's been known to make appearances in Mario Kart Wii, often cheering on Vine from the sidelines. On one particular occasion, he was watching from the sidelines of Luigi Circuit as Vine crashed his Kart into the wall. Jack, always one for a good bet, was clearly disappoint as his sponsored racer, Vine, continued to lose time and time again. Assumedly, after losing so much money betting on the races, Jack had to resort to becoming a tollbooth operator at Moonview Highway. The only evidence of this was his second appearance in which he was spotted in the toll booth, shouting at the faltering Vine, "Vinny boy, Vinny boy, Uncle Jack is ashamed of you. That'll be 75 cents."

Funguy - One of the many characters from Chrono Cross. In the game, he is a bald guy who eats a strange mushroom in the forest. As a result, he himself becomes a living, breathing, fighting mushroom. The chat's insistence on leaving Funguy in Vine's party for most of the game led him to become somewhat of a Vinesauce hero. The look of satisfaction on his face can be possessed by no other living creature, be it man or myconid. His face was shooped onto many a chat regular.

Jaakko - One of the heroes of Vinesauce Vidya, Jaakko is either the most oblivious, aloof person in the world or the best troll on the internet. He calls himself the Angry Video Game Nerd and reviews games often repeatedly spouting nonsensical phrases such as "dip", uttering nearly unintelligible sentences, mispronouncing words, failing constantly and ending the video in the middle of the review. Aside from reviewing games, he produces an astounding number of bizarre videos ranging from a cube spinning in place to various community quizzes, political insights to pictures of himself shirtless and many other pointless and awe inspiring creations. Many despise him solely for the sound of his voice. Others, like myself, are aware of his brilliance. Go to his youtube account to see the insane number of videos Jaakko has contributed to the internet. The amount of his videos we have on our autopilot ensures he'll be a Vinesauce meme for a long time to come.

Until next vine, see you in the chat!

Stream-a-thon + 7 Million Viewer Minutes

As some of you may know, Tame organized a spur of the moment 24 hour Stream-a-thon. For a full day, there was not a single moment of autopilot.

It started with me doing Mario Corruptions. From there I went to a few other random games ending with 2 or so hours of Final Fantasy 9. So after 6 and a half hours of Vinesauce streaming, Revscarecrow picked it up almost immediately. He streamed a bunch of random games as well, including Facade and Happy Wheels.

This is when Tame noticed the opportunity to celebrate our 7 million viewer minutes. He started streaming and kept on going. Breath of fire, some shitty Mickey Mouse game and others. His only break was to get some food and expel his bodily functions. During this time SleepDeprivation took over. Around the time Tame was finished streaming iFluid, I, in my weakened state, took over for the remaining 2 hours. I began with Threads of Fate, then tortured myself with the Home Improvement game, completed an excellent run of Star Fox 64 and ended the Stream-a-thon with Kirby 64.

It lasted from 7:35pm est on October 19th to around the same time the next day, October 20th. Thanks to everyone that watched, and especially thanks to Tame, Rev and Sleep for helping to make one of our finest moments. Special thanks to Adam for failing at Douk Nouk Kem in an attempt to keep the streaming going just a little longer.

Here's a song I played yesterday after the streaman was done. I'm reposting it to help us reflect over the past 6 months of Vinesauce Vidya. You guys make this possible each and every day. Thanks for hanging out with us.

Call to Stream

Uncle Vine has noticed a disturbing trend here on vinesauce vidya, lack of streaman. If you check the FAQ, you'll see our large number of streamers, yet I can count those that don't stream on every finger of my right hand as well as on a few toes of my left foot. This is upsetting. Those with streamer and mod privileges should at least try to stream a bit more often, otherwise, they are no more than glorified viewers.

Now, before people start becoming Butta the Hurt from Star Wars, I know no one pays you to stream and I know you all have busy schedules. I'm just asking those that idle and chat during an 8 hour autopilot gap to pick it up here and there.

Currently, during the day (est time) there is very little streaming. This discourages viewers from staying and hanging out; after-all, how many times can someone watch the same videos before growing tired of them?

My point is, I don't want to have to add new streamers when we have perfectly capable ones available to pick up the slack. Those that do stream with some regularity, you know who you are, disregard this post. For everyone else, there are a lot of viewers who would love to stream for us, but can't because of the overwhelming volume of streamers/mods we already have. If you no longer desire to stream, that's ok too. Just let me know and we can give some other streamer hopefuls a chance. We'll still be friends.

Streaming for our regulars is a privilege, and it makes my life so much more worth a damn. I can't do it alone though guys. You're all the reason we've come so far, let's give everyone a reason to keep coming back.

-Uncle Vine

Vinesauce Homobutts Banner Contest

We here at Vinesauce Vidya have a strict policy we adhere to: If Tame's around, it must be homobutts. This policy has worked for us so far, and we've decided to take it to the next level.

Starting on October 6th, 2010 and running until October 13th 2010, we will be holding a banner contest for the stream to go into the rotational banner system. However, we have a theme: homobutts! That's right -- Van Darkholme is going to be somehow prominently featured on our website one way or another. There'll even be rewards!

Contest rules:
- Banner for the website, 1220x203 resolution.
- Homobutts themed, eg Billy Herrington, Gay Steve, Gay Ricoh or Van Darkholme.
- No actual nudity or "butts" allowed, let's keep the site SFW.
- Rainbows, Billy Herrington's Face, and the text "Vinesauce Vidya" on the banner are a huge plus.
- Must be submitted by Midnight EST on Oct 16th 2010
- Voting will be done by Vinesauce mods.

Rewards! Everyone loves some rewards, so Tame will be providing a Steam game (oh boy, here we go..) of his choosing (oh god..) to the first place winner of the contest. Second place will recieve chatango donator status for a month, and no one cares about third place!

All banners, as long as they are on topic and fit the actual rules of the contest should hopefully be added to the rotational system eventually, just not as fast as the winners.

Good luck, and may the butts be with you.

Vinepedia - Part 1

Welcome to Vinepedia! This will be an occasional series that explains some of the "memes" of Vinesauce history. Lets start with a few basic ones.

Uncle Zion - From the Rev. Billy trolling. I had called in to speak to the reverend, but I got the call screener lady instead. I told her that I wanted to reverend to pray for my Uncle Vine. She said "what?" about 3 times before I finally said, "Uncle V-I-N-E... It's french." Unfortunately, when she went to speak to the reverend, she said "We have a called that wants you to pray for his Uncle Zion, he said it's a french name." That's when I became Uncle Zion.

Bowser by Curtis - The pinnacle of 3D model art. Found on Google 3D Warehouse, it has since become ingrained in many of our hearts forever. Click here and see what I mean.

Select a Worldo - A more recent phrase that many of you are probably already familiar with. During a Mario Brothers ROM Corruption, I had reached a level with text floating above Mario, seemingly suspended in mid air by Bowser's evil magic. The text simply said: Select a Worldo. A superstar was born that very moment.

Until next vine, see you in the chat!

Corruption Winner and Meet The Streamers

Late as always, but as most of you already know, the winner of the Corruption Contest is OptimalPower!

His corruption turned Mario into a frequent LSD abuser, experiencing extreme and colorful flashbacks. It also has a few other odd effects, such as turtles spawning whenever you pick up an item. The corruption was really fun to watch and surprisingly stable, so for that OptimalPower get's the grand prize. Other excellent entries included Super Minecraft Brothers, Super Swim All The Time Brothers and Super Tyrone Brothers. Thanks for entering guys!

The next addition to the site itself will be a Meet The Streamers page. This will give the viewers a better chance to know who's streaming as well as give the streamers a better idea about what games have already been streamed. So, before I get started, I'll need the following from the streamers:

- A paragraph about yourself written in the third person perspective. It would be campy, well written, truthful, or whatever you feel is a good representation of yourself.
- A 250 x 250 picture of anything you'd like. It could be a picture of you, your avatar, a metal dildo, whatever.
- Jen already compiled a list of streamed games from the viewers, but it's preferable you list the games you streamed/are streaming personally followed by a wishlist of games you want to stream in the future. Could be just one or two games.

I'll get started on the page when I have at least 5 bios and we'll see how it looks.

One final announcement... 5 MILLION VIEWER MINUTES GET. HOLY SHIT GUYS WAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN

Corruption Contest: The Quest for Fanoth

Select a Worldo! I've decided to hold a contest for Super Mario Brothers ROM corruptions based on the overwhelming positive response to our corruption streams. Using the "CORRUPT" program, you can change data in ROMs to create bizarre, sometimes disturbing effects. If you've ever seen the stream, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Here are the rules:

- The funniest, most interesting or most playable corruption will win. (EDIT: A playable version of Fanoth will be given extra consideration.)
- Winning entries will be voted on by the mods and myself.
- Limit 2 entries per person.
- Must use the CORRUPT program: http://www.zophar.net/utilities/corruptutil/corrupt.html
- Must use the same version of Super Mario Brothers as me: http://www.mediafire.com/?fuh2fvp5m120ilr
- Do NOT use random bytes as the results will impossible to replicate.
- Must submit entries as a comment to this post. Include your steamid.
- Your results can be submitted in the form of a youtube video, as text (the exact coordinates you used,) or a picture of your coordinates.
- Winner will win a steam game of their choice up to $20.
- Deadline is Saturday, September 11th.

Any questions? Post em in the comments. In other news, we passed the 4 million mark a loooong time ago. Thanks for sticking with us guys!

T-Shirts and More

What's that? Did someone say T-Shirts? No? Actually, no one even mentioned T-Shirts, but I went ahead and made us a cafepress store anyway. We have a bunch of designs already there with more to come. If this gets popular, I'll register for a paid account. That adds more items and design options to the store. For now, check out the designs and see what you like. If there's any vine related design you want me to add to the store, give me a heads up and I'll add it.

By the way, 10% of all sales go straight to me, so that means more money for contests to give this stuff away. Speaking of contests, we'll have a new one for you guys real soon. One that doesn't involve art this time.

NOTE: For the mushroom and Vinesworth designs we may soon have a cheaper alternative, just as high quality, AND more of the money will go straight to Vinesauce. So if you are considering buying a shirt of either of those designs, you may want to consider waiting a little bit. Contact KY for details.

As you guys know, we're buddies with GPM from DatStream. As you may also know, livestream hasn't been very kind to him these days. For whatever reason, his stream was locked twice. To make it up the the viewers, he's holding a special event where he and his streamers play nothing but classic games for a week. The thing is, instead of emulating the games, he's actually gonna buy them and stream through his capture card. I absolutely love this idea, and wish him the best of luck.

He's had a shitty past few weeks, a few donations will cheer him up. Want more info?

In other news, I still haven't declared a winner for the Vinecraft banner contest. A combination of busyness and laziness is the reason. Don't worry though, it'll happen soon. Also, be sure to check the FAQ page for an updated list of streamers. Until next time!

Mascot Contest Winners

As usual, I'm a bit late, but here are the winners of the mascot contest. We didn't get a whole lot of entries, so I'm just gonna post all the legitimate ones (ie: no Larry) so everyone can see how much hard work you guys put into this. Let's start off with our winners. Click on the images to see them in their full size.

1st Place: KylieTheDorf

2nd Place: Exhorder

3rd Place: Shadow

Congrats to Kylie for making an epic mascot! It was a close call, especially between Exhorder and Kylie, but almost all of the entries got some votes. Also, as a first for vinesauce vidya, the chat voted along with the mods this time, which worked out really well. Here are the other entries:

Pandanyo

Slowbro

Regigigity

Unknown

I even made a few just for the hell of it:

Guys, there's only one day left until your Vinecraft banners are due. If I'm not online to accept your entries, send them to either GlueGuy or Adventure. Here are the rules one more time:

- Again, no dicks or racism.
- Can be something constructed in Minecraft and made into a banner.

- Due date is Thursday, July 29th.
- Winners will be voted on by the mods of Vinesauce Vidya.
- All legit entries will be rotated randomly as the Vinecraft banner.
- First Prize is any Steam game of your choice under $10 + 1 month donation status on Chatango. Will become the main banner of Vinecraft for 5 days.

- Third Prize is nothing! Again! Will become the main banner of Vinecraft for 2 days.

Anything creative, whether it be an in-game screenshot or something in photoshop, is perfect for our contest. As a bit of motivation to enter in the contest, I made a banner to show you guys an example of what we're looking for.

In other Vinecraft news, we removed a few inactive streamers and got a few new ones. I really hate removing streamers, but if you haven't logged in to the studio in 2 weeks or so, you make it really hard for me to justify your position. More on that in the FAQ another time. Everyone be sure to say congrats to our new Vinecraft streamers!

On a final note, thanks again to all who donated! Check the donation page for my personal thanks to all of you. As I always say, the viewers are the only thing keeping us going. Thanks for being bros, all of you.

NOPE.AVI

In the aftermath of some technical difficulties, it appears that our entire autopilot and on-demand library has mysterously vanished. But do not fear, citizens of Vinesauce! We are not going anywhere. Where are we going? NOWHERE. That's right, do not let this "offline" business fool you. Raise your fist and resist. Nothing can keep Vinesauce down, not even losing our library of hilarious and entertaining videos.

There will be some healthy new autopilot uploaded soon enough, if we cannot recover the lost videos. On a positive note, congratulations Fzuul for earning streamer status. You rock!

More to come. Get on those banner and mascot entries, will ya?

UPDATE

Autopilot is in the process of being revitalized. Victory nearly is upon us. Rejoice, dear viewers!

Two Contests, Real Prizes!

It's contest time again, but this time, there are some legit prizes involved. This is for artfags, so if you are a drawing wizard, you should enter. Even if you can't draw, try anyway for the lulz. Here are the rules:

Uncle Vine Contest

This contest is for the best vinesauce mascot. My idea was a suit and tie with a vine growing from the collar in the style of Earthworm Jim. That's just a starting point, you guys can take it any way you want. Bonus points for creativity. Rules:

- Can be any image size.
- The winner(s) pictures will be scattered throughout the site, blog, in threads, etc.
- Consists of the best drawing of what Uncle Vine would look like, or any other suitable mascot.
- Can be in the form of a banner.
- Due date is Sunday, July 25th.
- Winners will be voted on by the mods of Vinesauce Vidya.
- First Prize is any Steam game of your choice under $5 + 1 month donation status on Chatango.
- Second Prize is 1 month donation status on Chatango. Big eyefuck text, here we come!
- Third Prize is nothing!

Vinecraft Banner Contest

We need more banners for Vinecraft. I tried making one with a cartoon creeper and pig making sweet love, but Gimp crashed on me and it was lost forever... Anyway, like the main site, we're doing a competition for the best banners. At the end of the contest, all entries will be rotated randomly. Rules:

- Image size must be 1,220 x 203.
- Again, no dicks or racism.
- Can be something constructed in Minecraft and made into a banner.
- Must say Vinecraft somewhere. You can also hide your name somewhere, but it should be smaller than the Vinecraft text.
- Due date is Thursday, July 29th.
- Winners will be voted on by the mods of Vinesauce Vidya.
- First Prize is any Steam game of your choice under $10 + 1 month donation status on Chatango. Will become the main banner of Vinecraft for 5 days.
- Second Prize is 1 month donation status on Chatango. Chat fish spam, FUCK YEAR! Will become the main banner of Vinecraft for 3 days.
- Third Prize is nothing! Again! Will become the main banner of Vinecraft for 2 days.

As always, any banner you submit for the main site will be added to the random rotation. Feels good man.

Just to clear the air about something people have been asking about, our mod Nuke hasn't been banned, far from it. He wanted to start up his own stream again, so we left him a streamer at Vinecraft, but did indeed remove him from the main stream. He is a bro and I really appreciate the time he spent with us on the site.

Visit him at Nukes Bomb Shelter and check out his streams!

That's it for now. Any questions about the contest, just ask.
