Corruption Contest: The Quest for Fanoth

Select a Worldo! I've decided to hold a contest for Super Mario Brothers ROM corruptions based on the overwhelming positive response to our corruption streams. Using the "CORRUPT" program, you can change data in ROMs to create bizarre, sometimes disturbing effects. If you've ever seen the stream, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Here are the rules:

- The funniest, most interesting or most playable corruption will win. (EDIT: A playable version of Fanoth will be given extra consideration.)
- Winning entries will be voted on by the mods and myself.
- Limit 2 entries per person.
- Must use the CORRUPT program: http://www.zophar.net/utilities/corruptutil/corrupt.html
- Must use the same version of Super Mario Brothers as me: http://www.mediafire.com/?fuh2fvp5m120ilr
- Do NOT use random bytes as the results will impossible to replicate.
- Must submit entries as a comment to this post. Include your steamid.
- Your results can be submitted in the form of a youtube video, as text (the exact coordinates you used,) or a picture of your coordinates.
- Winner will win a steam game of their choice up to $20.
- Deadline is Saturday, September 11th.

Any questions? Post em in the comments. In other news, we passed the 4 million mark a loooong time ago. Thanks for sticking with us guys!

I had a whole bunch of better and more hilarious corruptions, but they did not work when I tried reinputting the exact coordinates again. I was not using random. These two were some of the very few that worked more than one time.

Not an entry, but I think the reason you might have some trouble might lie in the fact that some entries might choose to corrupt bytes with random bytes. If they shift right or use a byte range instead, the result might be better replicable. Just a hunch and I'm probably totally wrong.

I don't expect to win but I like this corruption, unfortunately it's not fanoth and I don't think you can beat 1-1.

Welcome to the quest for Fanoth.

A world full of whimsical impossibility and cruel endings, The world of Fanoth will greet you with dire hostility. You may end up frozen in time, or not even able to participate in time at all. The amazing treasure you will behold if you can complete this quest...Oh what the sight could do to a mans will.

In some cases, you may end up in Aquanoth, the underwater neighbor of Fanoth. It holds few secrets and the layout is well known by explorers, so wasting yourself here would probably not be an effective use of the time you have.

There is then Polyganoth. A parallel doorway which dashes your hopes of even getting into Fanoth right at the last second. Be you a brave adventurer if you can manage this daring dungeon.

Ending up in Skynoth is also a possibility. It is what you would expect, clouds, clouds and oh, more clouds. Venturing there will probably not serve you any justice, Adventurer.

There is also the outer rim. Such hellish corrupted creations have festered there. The most destructive and powerful contortions dwell in the outer rim, adventurer. It is not recommended you go to this hellish place.

Then there is the barrier. The unholy force protecting the glorious golden power known as Fanoth. There are many versions of this damned force, and there is no known way to counteract its powerful magic.

Little is known about the land in and around Fanoth, but what the world does know seems as though it could be a waking dream, a wonderful bliss.

Will you be the adventurer to achieve the journey to Fanoth, or will you perish like so many that have come before you?

I've been browsing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It's pretty worth enough for me.
In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the net will be
much more useful than ever before.

See you guys in 5 more years
